Everything you wanted to know about dog fouling… and more

A resident of Vauxhall Grove complained directly to Lambeth Council about the dog poo seemingly everywhere in our streets and copied her complaint to us (we just love residents who try to sort stuff out themselves first and copy us in!).

As this is something close to our own feet, we rang our friends in StreetCare and here’s what they told us:

  • All street sweepers carry FREE Poop Scoop Bags to hand out to dog owners whom they pass on their beat to encourage good practice.
  • Sweepers are also required to pick up any dog-fouling they come across during their daily sweeping beats.  They can either use the dog bags or shovel, whichever is easiest for them.  Street sweepers will be reminded that they must do this!

The Council is unable to place Dog Fouling bins on the public footways – only in Public Open Spaces and Parks across the borough.  Dog walkers can use normal bins to dispose of dog waste, but it should be double bagged.  Alternatively, take it home and add it to the general waste.

Lambeth Council commit each year to National Poop Scoop Week which takes place in June and is led by the Dogs Trust.  Here’s last year’s poster that was placed on all street sweeper barrows:
