Encouraging news on Parking Review
by VivaVauxhall - November 21st, 2009.Filed under: Parking.
Cllr Rob Banks (Lib Dem) and Viva Vauxhall (VV) had a meeting with Lambeth Council Transport & Highways (T&H) on Friday 20 November to re-kick-start the much promised Parking Review and we came away encouraged by what is now being proposed:
- T&H will find funds to carry out the review from an underspend elsewhere in the department,
- They will supply VV with an action/consultation timetable during next week,
- The review will be fast-tracked and an outside consultant is being appointed to carry out the review as this will be quicker,
- T&H will maintain a close liaison with Viva Vauxhall and Cllr Rob Banks during the review process.
T&H are fully aware of the problems local residents already have in parking and have taken on board that, if nothing happens meanwhile and the Octave Tower and ex-Christie-site developments* go ahead, things can only get a lot worse.
There will of course be a full consultation process with local residents as the review progresses and before any recommendations are made.
Following our meeting (which was only yesterday), we have now asked if the provision of pedal-bike stands/loops could be included in the parking review and we will update the blog on this as soon as T&H get back to us.
*both designated as car-free schemes (residents will not be allowed parking permits), but residents would still be able to obtain permits for visitors and, of course, parking is currently free at the weekend.
