Whatever happened to Lambeth Council’s promised parking review of our area …

… ‘a parking review that would identify parking issues as well as make recommendations for new and revised controls’?

Well, not a lot!  So little in fact that Cllr Rob Banks (Lib Dem) and Viva Vauxhall made a Stage 1 complaint to Transport and Highways (T&H) who have acknowledged that there are grounds for our dissatisfaction.  We in turn are not happy with the scope and depth of the reply from T&H and have now escalated this to a Stage 2 complaint.

At the same time as this complaints process is taking its course, another meeting is being set up to provide T&H with ‘a more detailed understanding of the parking issues affecting our neighbourhood’.  We have of course already done this both in writing and at meetings, but if that is what it takes to get some movement here, then we are happy to do it again.

T&H have however made clear to us that parking reviews can only be undertaken if funds are available.  And the presumption of T&H at their most recent meeting with us was that this would be the case.  Unfortunately, the budget to undertake the review isn’t there at present and it is unclear whether it will be before the end of the financial year.

Viva Vauxhall are not taking the lead here in proposing changes to existing parking schemes.  T&H are the experts.  We are simply identifying and passing on local concerns for them to consider and come up with questions and proposals which will be subject to a full consultation process with residents.
