Book Launch “Vauxhall - A Little History”
by VivaVauxhall - October 27th, 2009.Filed under: General.
“Vauxhall: A Little History” is the latest book by Vauxhall Civic Society committee member Ross Davies, and comes with recommendations from Vauxhall residents including Joanna Lumley (”a must for anyone interested in the history of south London”) and Vauxhall MP Kate Hoey (”Dr Davies tells the Vauxhall story with a light touch, and his book has you constantly saying ‘Well, I never knew that!”). Kate Hoey adds: “Vauxhall is a remarkable area, stretching from Waterloo and Kennington in the north to Brixton, Clapham and Battersea in the south. Vauxhall’s past is colourful, sometimes tragic and not as well known as it deserves to be.”
The author himself says: “What many us Vauxhall people have in common is that we come from somewhere else, and know little about where we now live or work. I often wanted to find ‘a little history’ of Vauxhall not only to read myself but also to give to the children, or as a present to family, friends and visitors.”
Ross’s history is illustrated with colour photography by Stockwell’s Tim Clifford.
You will be able to get your copy of “Vauxhall: A Little History” from local London bookshops and news stands, or from The Nine Elms Press, (£8.99: ISBN 978-0-9561993-0-0) email: nineelmspress@aol.com
