New trees in Langley Lane
by Danny - June 26th, 2009.Filed under: Langley Lane, Trees and Plants.
Working closely with Viva Vauxhall, Lambeth Council have planted three Pencil Pine trees in Langley Lane, each with two stakes, which hopefully will make them more resistant to vandalism.
The lovely gum tree, a bit further up the road, seems to have survived being snapped in half, but is regrowing shoots from its base. Jimmy is going to lift it, and give it some TLC with the aim of replanting it somewhere locally in the future. A new tree will be replanted (sometime!) in the vacant plot.
Another tree on the agenda to replace is the tree at the head of Langley Lane (on the left as you drive down). I can tell you that there are lots of discussions going on about what species to plant there, but there is consensus that it must be a good size – again to deter vandalism.

On the issue of vandalism/theft, has anyone had any plants stolen recently? We had a couple of plants taken from our front garden/porch on Sunday. Its not the cost/value of the plants that concerns me (they are easily replaced), but rather the sad fact that someone is prepared to steal plants which have been grown for the enjoyment of everyone in the area.

Great to see the trees planted. I just hope that someone gives them plenty of water every day otherwise they will die.

Steve,
We’ve got a watering rota going, so that shouldn’t be a problem. Lambeth Council’s planting season is from October to March and normally they wouldn’t plant trees so late. They made an exception in our case as they know that the trees will get lots of TLC from the gardening fraternity.
